EMF-Aware Cellular Networks in RIS-Assisted Environments

The deployment of the 5th-generation cellular networks (5G) and beyond has triggered health concerns due to electric magnetic fields (EMF) exposure. In this letter, we propose a novel architecture minimize population exposure EMF by considering smart radio environment with reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS). Then, optimize RIS phases in terms index (EI) while maintaining minimum target quality service. proposed scheme achieves up 20% reduction EI compared schemes without RISs.
